Removing a tree is one solution to problematic trees, but if the stump doesn’t come out, it can be a whole other issue. You should never leave the stump after tree surgery for the following reasons.
They’re Hazards
Depending on the height of the stump, it can be very dangerous to have in your garden. With a little grass growing up around it, the stump becomes all but invisible. You may end up tripping over it and getting injured, which can be a big problem. Even when the vegetation is kept trimmed all around, you will find that it’s easy to trip over a stump. This includes cutting the grass, trimming weeds, etc. It can be frustrating to take that extra time if you’re doing your own garden work. They Create a Home for Toxic Fungi
If you wish to have toxic fungi growing in your garden, then a tree stump is the way to do it. Certain fungi begin to grow on the stamp, they can spread to nearby woody plants and kill them. You also want to avoid providing a home for unpleasant pests that may cause further issues, such as termites, hornets, and more.
They Ruin Garden Machinery
As you likely know, it’s important to avoid obstacles with your lawnmower. The machines may handle some small, moveable items, like rocks or sticks, but when they hit a stump, it’s bad. The blades tend to bend when they hit the stump and this can completely destroy your machinery. You may intend to avoid the stump, but all it takes is one moment of not paying close attention and you no longer have a lawn mower.
