Whenever a tree is cut down, there’s a stump leftover. It’s not uncommon for these stumps to be left alone and some people even make them a part of their garden. However, you should never leave a stump in place. It’s always a good idea to remove them. Here’s why:
Imagine running across the garden and you trip on something and fall flat on your face. It can easily happen when you have a stump leftover in your garden! Children are most likely to be hurt by these leftover wood pieces, as they may not pay much attention as they’re scampering about. A scraped knee or bumped head may not be the end of the world, but it’s certainly easy to prevent.
Tree stumps are wood and they tend to die off once deprived of the rest of the tree. This means you have dead wood rotting away in the garden. Needless to say, more and more insects will show up to enjoy the decaying stump and these insects, including beetles and ants, may move on to your home soon enough.
Is your garden small as it is? If you’re like many people, you relish your garden space, but you may not have enough of it. A stump can drastically reduce your space and you’ll need to plan your landscaping around it, which can be frustrating. If you simply eliminate the stump, you have that space back for your plans.
Often, new tree sprouts come up from a stump that hasn’t been completely killed off. While this is great if you’re trying to grow a whole new grove of trees, it can be difficult to remove them every time the tree starts to sprout again. Some of these trees may grow from the roots, so they pop up near the stump, but not right on it. The type of tree will determine just how likely it is to keep coming back.
This is particularly true when the stump has been cut off at ground level or close to it. It’s hard enough to manoeuvre your lawnmower around the stump when it’s tall, but if you hit it, your blades could be damaged. That simple stump can easily become a big hazard for your equipment.
Unless you have a very good reason to keep a stump, you should get rid of it as soon as possible. Ideally, the person cutting down the tree will also take out the stump. However, there are stump removal services available, as well.
